A Night to Remember; Mr. and Mrs. Hackelberg } Lake County, IL Wedding Photographer, Sara Glashagel

"Do you remember the 21st night of September?" Great song. And now it officially takes on a whole new meaning. I think anyone in attendance this 21st of September at Claire and Paul's wedding will 100%, without a doubt, remember this night for the rest of their lives.

The setting: a beautiful backyard wedding. White tent, gorgeous yellow and orange fall colors throughout, string lights hung, and burlap covering the tables. It was quite literally the perfect backdrop for a fall wedding in a beautiful prairie-style backyard overlooking a pond. What could go wrong? Ohhhhh, just mother nature for starters!

As I'm driving to start photographing for the day, I am in a literal downpour. I couldn't see past my windshield. The rain continued all afternoon. As we got to the hour before the wedding, a final decision had to be made. Do we go with Plan B? What about Plan C, D, and E....that's about where we landed. An outdoor wedding during a major fall storm. No biggie at all, right? Well, believe it or not, this bride and groom handled it with all the grace in the world.

One of the first lessons in marriage is to learn that things don't always go as planned, right? Life doesn't always give you what you expected, and what did they do? They took the punches and went with the flow. I can quite honestly say I've never seen so many people jump to help and make it happen. The ceremony moved under the tent, the tables being lifted by guests at the last minute, and not one complaint in the room. It's no wonder Claire and Paul are just amazing people. They are surrounded by just that. People willing to take off their heels and walk through the mud for them....literally. And the result, a perfect, beautiful backyard wedding,....yes, maybe they were on plan C or D for the day, but it was P-E-R-F-E-C-T.

They say rain on your wedding day is good luck....well, Claire and Paul, you are started off right, my friends! You are about as lucky as anyone can be on day 1 together! So so sooooo much mud, but so so soooooo much love! Major props to you for going with the flow; major props to every member of the wedding party who pulled off this beautiful day; and major props to every single person who stepped up yesterday and showing them unconditional love by lending a hand and celebrating with the bride and groom through their very first storm together in life. It is safe to say that none of us present yesterday will ever forget the 21st night of September!
